He was an elected member of the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008. He is the Nayeb-e-Ameer or the Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami. The International Crimes Tribunal found Sayeedi guilty in 8 of the 20 charges, including mass killing, rape, arson, looting and forcing minority Hindus to convert to Islam during 1971.
